Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Your Important Financial Questions

What’s covered in a Federal Pre-Retirement Review?

During your Federal Pre-Retirement Review meeting, we’ll discuss the codes on your paystubs and show you what you’re paying for and what you’re getting in return. For any future retirement date, we’ll calculate your FERS or CSRS annuity and survivor benefits for spouses and review in detail the strengths and weaknesses of your FEGLI life insurance package.

We’ll cover the FERS supplement (for those who qualify) and detail how your Social Security benefits interact with other money (spouses and divorcees included). We’ll also map out all options available with your Thrift Savings Plan, review your FEHB health insurance eligibility and costs, and help you with military buy-back deposits. In addition, we’ll discuss any potential mud puddles that lie ahead for divorcees with a standing court order (QDRO) for prior marriages.

Last but not least, we’ll help determine an optimal time for you to retire. You’ll receive a retirement “road map” and be able to “test drive” your money before you retire. You’ll be clear-eyed and see your retirement future from a hundred-foot view. Let’s put you in the retirement driver’s seat and show you what’s possible – added safety and financial security. We invite you to visit us for a personal, non-sale, no-pressure review of your retirement. Invest the time now with one of our seasoned federal retirement professionals and we’ll help point you in the right direction for decades to come.

We assist almost all of them, including the United States Postal Service, Social Security Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Veterans Administration, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and law enforcement officers (LEOs).

Of course! Our retirement review is designed to help you plan for retirement. We believe the most financially secure retirements are those that are planned for years in advance, not waiting until the last minute before you retire.

We do NOT charge a fee to do a complete Federal Pre-Retirement Review and/or Federal Retirement application paperwork. It is totally free to you and your spouse. However, it does take about one to one and a half hours to complete properly, so your personal time and attendance is required.

To conduct a thorough federal benefits retirement review, we will need the following:

  • A recent paystub
  • A recent copy of your Social Security benefit statement (and your spouse’s), or visit www.ssa.gov to create an online account and print
  • A copy of your Thrift Savings Plan statement
  • A copy of any other retirement account statements for you (and your spouse) that may interact with your federal retirement picture and be of importance to you (i.e., prior employer IRAs, 401(k))
  • Any prior correspondence you may have from your agency’s human resources department (i.e. a computer-generated annuity estimate)
